E.J. Hughes

Regular price $75.00

E. J. Hughes is famous for his strong and appealing images of the landscape and seascape of British Columbia and of Canada. His paintings are well loved for their compelling clarity tinged with an air of mystery, a sense of wonder and love of the beauty of shore, sea and sky. His unique talent for depicting the landscape in a way that both he and viewers believe it should be, rather than the way it actually is, allows a newer and deeper understanding of this part of the world.

Lavishly illustrated, with 100 full-colour and 25 black-and-white images, this is the first full-scale volume to honour the artistic life and work of Hughes from the start of his long career to the present. Writing clearly and thoughtfully, Ian Thom, a Senior Curator at the Vancouver Art Gallery, gives a clear portrait of the artists' work and relationships. As well, he considers in depth the many important images from Hughes's entire oeuvre and an assessment of his rich contribution to British Columbian and Canadian art.

E.J. Hughes was published in conjunction with the exhibition organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery presented from January 30, 2003 to June 8, 2003.
