This travel pouch or art case pattern was originally a painting titled Grid and it was inspired by the ancient textile technique called Bogolan fini done by the Bambara people. The Bambara people primarily live in Mali but they are also in Guinea, Burkina Faso, and Senegal. The pouch is made from 100% Linen and is printed in Canada. Tafui is a Canadian visual artist and multidisciplinary designer born in Xaymaca / Jamaica whose practice encompasses painting, printmaking, wood carving and textile design. The bold black and white patterns that adorn many of her designs and murals are a form of storytelling through repetition and the arrangement of symbols as inspired by precolonial textile techniques and mark making.
