An embroidered Spanish sampler (1833) in The Met collection has been beautifully translated into this unisex scarf. Showcasing intricate geometric patterns stitched in multicolored silk, the original linen textile is among a group of samplers bequeathed to The Met by the estate of Mabel Harper (American, 1881–1957). A prominent New York collector who regularly traveled to Europe, Harper was known to comb the markets for rare textiles and antiques
