This special edition Studio Mug Set was produced by Heath Ceramics for the exhibition Edith Heath and Emily Carr: From the Earth. Its sale is exclusive to the Vancouver Art Gallery Store and Heath Ceramics.
The Studio Mug was designed in the 1940s by Edith Heath. The charming low handle is a testament to Edith's unique design vision. The special edition mugs come in two earthy combinations — Aqua/Hickory and Sand/Hickory.

The Gallery Store would like to thank Heath Ceramics and the Brian & Edith Heath Foundation for making this special offering possible.
Heath Ceramics introduced the Studio Mug in 1955 as a "mug with a handle." From 1961 to 1971 it was sold as an accessory to the Gourmet line (later named Rim), and it remained in production as "Coupe mug" until 1981. The mug was reintroduced in 2002 under its current name.
The hallmark of the Studio Mug is its low handle. Intended for use without a saucer, this untraditional design embodies the informality that is characteristic of the West Coast lifestyle emergent at the time of its creation. Brian Heath claimed the low handle made the mug more stable when held, whether full or empty.
