The Gallery Store would like to thank Heath Ceramics and the Brian & Edith Heath Foundation for making this special offering possible.

Heath Ceramics introduced the Studio Mug in 1955 as a "mug with a handle." From 1961 to 1971 it was sold as an accessory to the Gourmet line (later named Rim), and it remained in production as "Coupe mug" until 1981. The mug was reintroduced in 2002 under its current name.

The hallmark of the Studio Mug is its low handle. Intended for use without a saucer, this untraditional design embodies the informality that is characteristic of the West Coast lifestyle emergent at the time of its creation. Brian Heath claimed the low handle made the mug more stable when held, whether full or empty.
